Teen Portrait Parties are a great – unique, fun and affordable – way to get your Senior Portraits created, although we certainly don’t limit it to high school seniors. Any celebration is a great time to celebrate with portraits - New Teens [13 years old], Sweet Sixteen, Graduation, and everything in between.
So, what’s a Portrait Party? Set a date, choose a location, and invite your friends – guys or girls. Parties can take place at your home, at an area park, or any other location you like. On the day of your party, Deb Evans will photograph you and your friends – posed, candids, serious, goofy, formal, casual, together and individual shots – whatever you want. You will pose like a super model, encourage each other, act silly, feel beautiful, and have FUN! You will each receive your own session, plus plenty of time for photos of you and your friends together. Plan on about two hours for your party. Each party-goer will receive a CD with his or her individual portrait files [at least 20 images of each party guest], plus digital files from all the group portraits. The hostess receives an 8×10 of your favorite group pose. CDs are usually delivered within three weeks.
What’s it cost? Three guests [including hostess] – $250 each; Four or more guests [including hostess] – $200 each. Just one BFF? That’s ok too – you’ll pay our “Share-a-Session” price of $350 each. Fee INCLUDES a photo CD for each guest with reprint rights.
How to book – email Deb at debevansphotography@yahoo.com to let us know you’re interested. We’ll figure out a date and location for your party. Pre-pay your hostess session fee, then invite your guests and have them contact Deb to arrange for paying their session fee. That’s it! Parties are available for after school or on the week-ends – week-end dates are limited. Book now!
Did you get a digital SLR camera for Christmas? Do you already have one that’s never been off “auto”? Digital SLRs, such as Nikon D5000 and the Canon Digital EOS Rebel, bring advanced features to amateur and hobby photographers, but all the buttons, dials, and menus can be confusing!
In this basic 2 1/2 hour workshop from Deb Evans Photography, I will walk you through the basic features of your camera and advise the best settings to use for common photo situations.
Who is this class for?
You thought that buying a more expensive camera would automatically improve your photographs, but, not so much…
You love taking pictures, but becoming the next Ansel Adams is not your goal.
You like the pictures you’re taking, and you are ready to try out some of the features of your camera and get it off of “auto”.
What you’ll learn:
basic photography techniques, including composition
lens characteristics and which lens works best in different situations
basic information about exposure [shutter speed, f-stop, ISO]
what the different modes/styles are and the effect they have on your images; metering modes; white balance settings
basics of using natural light and improving your flash photography
saving images, sharing, printing

I am very happy to greet the new year – 2010.
I have to admit that I’m not sorry to see 2009 go – it was one problem after another, finally ending in a way that sums up the year… my laptop computer was hit with a serious virus that invaded every program. After a visit to the computer doctor, we determined the only choice was to do a system restore back to factory settings, meaning four years of software, documents, and all the miscellaneous stuff you accumulate was gone. So, as I’m hunting for all my software CDs to reinstall, not in much of a rush because I still have my daughters’ desktop computer to use… guess what?! Last night, that computer was hit with the same virus – it’s unusable right now and will probably need a system restore as well. SO, other than getting on the internet with the laptop, I’m basically computer-less. I have most of my software CDs – still hunting for the Photoshop CD. I have the newest program, but it was an upgrade, so I still have to find the original program CD, which I haven’t seen in four years… so, ugh. The good news is that I keep my client image files on a separate external hard-dive, so, your images are safe! I just can’t do anything with them right now.
…but, I’m lumping that problem in to the 2009 category. I am starting fresh for 2010, and I’m starting with two new projects for the New Year!
1] The 365 Photography Project – this has been floating around the internet for a few years… basically, it’s just shooting an image every day. That sounds easy, but the EVERY day part trips some people up. For me, the goal will be an image for ME every day; client/work images won’t count. If you’d like to join me, I’ve started a Facebook group for the project – several of my students have already joined. If you’re interested, drop me an email!
2] The One Year Bible – www.oneyearbibleblog.com – I’m committed to reading the Bible this year. This blog makes it SO easy. They send you the daily readings; you can read it online in any translation.
Plus, I have the usual resolutions to deal with…
I have lots of fun ideas for my photography clients, so stay tuned for that. I’m scheduling a “Get to Know your Digital SLR” for this month – details coming soon. Next week, my classes at Extraordinary Education start up again – photography, creative writing, literature, grammar and writing lab, and government. I’m looking forward to seeing all my students after the break.
I’m headed out to Galveston today with my daughters and my mom. We’re going to stroll around the Seawall and The Strand, then head to Moody Gardens tonight for their Festival of Lights. Enjoy your day and “here’s to a Happy and Prosperous 2010 for us all!”

I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas! It came and went so quickly, and now another year has come and almost gone. I think the worst part of getting older is that time just seems to go by faster and faster! My husband and I celebrated 17 years of marriage in 2009; my older daughter just turned 15, and my younger daughter is heading towards 14 very soon; Deb Evans Photography is celebrating our seventh anniversary in January! How could so much time have passed?!
I’m looking forward to a fabulous 2010! I’m looking forward to seeing my “regulars” this year and, hopefully, meeting lots of new clients/friends. I also plan on focusing more energy on teaching, writing, and developing new products and events, including the return of Portrait Parties!
Keep an eye on the blog for updates, or, if you’re on Facebook or Twitter, look me up!

Great wedding at Oak Tree Manor in Spring. Beautiful location, fun couple – love the bride’s cowboy boots!

Another fun mini-shoot – I’ve been photographing little J since he was a baby! Now, he’s a VERY active two-year old. I had so much fun chasing him around. I laughed SO hard!!

I wanted to share the sweetest note from one of my clients.
I was looking at Saturday’s proofs again to decide which one to use for my Christmas card this year and I just can’t believe how well you capture my son’s personality. When we were headed home from taking pictures, my Mom asked me if I thought there’d be any good ones and I said I really didn’t think so because we were late getting there, his clothes were all disheveled, he had on funky shoes and his hair is WAY too long, et cetera, et cetera. Yet, you did it! I am amazed at how wonderful these pictures are. I don’t know how you do it! I’m so thankful we have you so that at least a few times a year I get pictures that really capture him the way I see him. I’ve taken maybe one or two pictures in his lifetime (out of thousands of pictures) that I felt really captured him and yet you’re able to do it over and over in less than 5 minutes. Amazing. Thank you, thank you, thank you……a million THANK YOUS!!!!!!!
